Almost Done!

3/31/2009

This week and early next week we are wrapping up the last of the construction and decorating. Our target opening date is April 15th, but may be a little sooner depending on when we get our final sign off from the City of Napa. We'll keep you all posted. Thank you so much for your patience and encouragement.

We have sidewalks again!

3/18/2009

Yesterday we got a pleasant surprise from Public Works and we were given an alternative to having to get 2 galvanized boxes made for our sidewalk drains that would have cost $900 each. They very kindly offered us an alternative which will save us over a thousand dollars. We appreciate the help.

This morning at 8:00 Joe from Public Works came by and inspected the concrete work for our sidewalks. We were thrilled when it passed the requirements and we were able to pour the concrete! That's one inspection down and many more to go but things are moving now! Since we got our Building Permit things finally seem to be going our way! Yippee!

Building Permit

3/16/2009

After many sleepless nights and lots of back and forth with Public Works we finally have a Building Permit and couldn't be more thrilled. We don't agree with all the "extras" they are making us do but just decided we couldn't fight it and needed to move on. So, we agreed to all their conditions, paid our fees and away we go!

We are so thankful for the two departments that really went out of their way to help us out over the last year plus in this process. The Building Department was beginning to feel like a 2nd home! Don, Dan, Gene and Erica are delightful and have helped me more than I can say in this short Blog Post.  The other department we thought was amazing were the folks at the Fire Prevention Department. They really helped us figure out all the fire and life safety issues and have been so generous with their time and knowledge. I could not have made it this far without Darren, Larry, Sharon and Eileen. So, thank you all very much. We can't wait to invite you over once everything is complete!

Riechers Spence & Associates Saves the Day!!!

3/13/2009

Last week we discovered one more thing we needed to identify for Public Works before we could get our Building Permit. We needed a licensed engineer to survey our handicap space and essentially prove that it is flat. Ryan Gregory from RSA Civil was incredibly kind and helped us out of a bind. He sent two of his engineers over to survey our space and take all the necessary measurements. When they were done he did the sketch of our space with all the specifications for Public Works and really saved the day! We are so thankful!

If you ever need any civil engineering work done we highly recommend this firm! Check out the other projects they are currently working on at RSA Consulting Civil Engineers.

Still Waiting

3/11/2009

Many of you are asking if we are still on target to open on April 1st. It makes us very sad to report we are not likely to open on April 1st and at this point we aren't sure when we will be able to open. We are hoping for April 15th. We have been unable to obtain our Building Permit and are at a standstill on the project. Each day we keep trying and hoping but at this point it would appear as though certain City departments have no interest in helping small businesses. We are once again discouraged but will keep trying.
