Science at PB&J's

8/1/2008

For the past few weeks PB&J’s invited us to come bring a bit of science to their summer camps. Once a week we brought different exhibits and crafts and let the kids play. It was great to get some feedback from the kids and to see how much they enjoyed our time together. We are grateful to Wendy from PB&J’s for the invitation. It gave us some valuable experience. It’s nice to have a special bond with another children’s business. Both Wendy and Bob have been mentors to us throughout this process of starting a small business.

Birthday Fun!

7/19/2008

We got hired for our first birthday party and what a blast it was. We gave the party for an 8 year old who invited all her closest friends and family. It was especially fun to see the parents interacting and problem solving with both the exhibits and their children!!! One of our special crafts was a spectrascope. All the children enjoyed how light breaks into its component colors like you would see in a prism.

Chef's Market #9

7/17/2008

Tonight we brought the Coooperation Pulley Exhibit which was well received by the kids and parents alike. It's a fun exhibit where 3 people have to work together to raise and lower a basket with pulleys, hence the name Cooperation Pulley. It's great to hear kids working with each other and their families and thinking about how it works and what to do with it. The Earthquake Shake Exhibit also made its debut. Here kids try to build a structure on a small table that shakes. The point is to see if their structure will survive an earthquake. It was really interesting to see some of the structures kids and their parents came up with, and even more fun to watch as they tested the soundness of their structures.

4th of July

7/4/2008

This was our largest outing to date and it was exciting! We were asked to participate in the 4th of July festivities downtown. So, we packed up our trailer and camped out there for the day. For our craft, kids colored American flags and made their own bracelets. Our Dig Table, Magnet Table and our Solar Exhibit seemed to get the most attention. We were sandwiched between two of our favorite businesses Rockzilla and PB&J's so we felt like we had a great location. Despite a bit of negative press about the small parade we thought that the planners did a great job incorporating as many activities as they could for children and families.
