Science Night

7/31/2009

Well, we just finished another fabulous science night. We had kids ranging in age from 3 to 10. Our activities included a fun scavenger hunt, the Van de Graaf (the loved making their hair stand up), making Plaster of Paris animal track castings, Flubber making and a few other fun tidbits. Before we knew it 9:00 pm came around and it was time to go home. This one was especially nice because we got to celebrate a birthday too. One of the moms brought some cupcakes from GiGi's in Browns Valley and they were so yummy! Wow! We hope you can join us for the next one!

End of Week 4

7/17/2009

This week our summer campers explored the human body and nutrition. We were fortunate to get a couple of visitors this week. We started the week with Simone from Community Resources for Children who talked to the kids about sometimes foods and anytime foods and healthy eating. We were then visited by Chef Kevin Simonson from Acacia Vineyard. He taught the kids how to make fruit roll-ups and sent them home with a tasty recipe. Dr. Craig Sultan from The Eye Works also came to talk to the children about their eyes. They got an extra special treat when he showed them his pet wolf! What a wonderful week it was!

End of Week 3 Camp

7/10/2009

Today was the end of week 3 of our camp. It was a week filled with fun and excitement as the kids learned about our environment. We had a couple of special guest speakers. Sara Gallegos from the City of Napa visited us and talked to the children about our environment and what it means to recycle. Arvis from Napa Valley Hoppers also made an appearance in a Hopper and talked to the kids about the benefits of using small lightweight transportation like Hoppers. At the end of the week the children made their own treasure rocks and squealed with delight as they watched our mini volcano erupt! All in all it was another great week!

End of Week 2 Camp

7/3/2009

This week our camp focused on the Garden. Our week started with a special visit from Debbie at Worm Endings Unlimited. She talked about worms and showed the kids our new worm bin. They were all excited to look at the worms up close and ask questions. We were also fortunate to have Teacher Michelle Risso come and talk to the kids about seeds. Each child made their own seed packets to take home! By the end of the week they had planted their own flower to bring home and were excited to share their new found knowledge with their parents!
