Mind Candy Clothing

9/23/2008

I love it when I come across a cool business owned by parents. In this case, I happen to know one of the business owners. I was just about to place another order and thought I would share the company. It’s Mind Candy Clothing and they make rhinestone tees with positive messages for girls. As a mother of a 3 1/2 year old daughter I can certainly appreciate having another fashion option with personality and a positive message. My personal favorite is the one that says I Love Books because she really does love books. The ladies at the library love it when she wears it and she loves the attention she gets! I also got the Rocket Scientist version as a gift and it was a huge hit! They have lots of other cool sayings in categories like Book Lovers, Math Divas, Scientista Fashionistas, Real Princesses, Web/Tech, and Smart Cookies. You simply have to look at their site to see how clever they are. They come in adult and child sizes and lots of fun colors!! If you’re shopping for a nice present that really has some thought behind it this is one that all ladies can appreciate! Check them out, you won’t be disappointed.

Kidspot

9/19/2008

We just picked up a few of our exhibits that were on loan to Kidspot in Sebastopol. They had a special construction themed camp over the summer, so we loaned them a few things for a few weeks. They enjoyed our exhibits and gave us some important feedback. We have enjoyed our relationship with Michelle from Kidspot and are sad that she’s selling her business.

Our Newest Exhibit, The Turntable

9/15/2008

Turntable

As a special present from my wonderful husband he finished our turntable for Scientopia. For those who don’t know what it is I hope you’ll be able to come and  test it out one of these days in the near future. When we were deciding which exhibits to build, I told Jonathan this one was a “MUST HAVE”! We first  saw it at The Exploratorium and then later saw a version of it at Explorit in Davis we both just loved it! At $17,500 it was a bit steep to purchase one from the Exploratorium, (maybe someday we will be able to afford something from this marvelous institution) so we set about building one. We used some materials purchased from Eco-Organize  as well as some new items to create it. This is just one of the times it helps to be married to an amazing woodworker who also happens to be an engineer. This exhibit teaches kids about mathematics and motion. As the spinning object moves toward the edge of the wheel it speeds up. As it moves toward the center it slows down. Come and check it out.

Another Great Play Space, Blue Sky Family Club

9/13/2008

Today we visited Blue Sky Family Club for their grand opening in Emeryville. This is a new place we heard about from a couple of moms on the Scientopia mailing list (thanks for the tip!). It’s a really cools bay area business that is ½ café and ½ play space. Everything looked really nice and of course brand new! We stopped and ate lunch in the café before playing and the food was pretty good. Both  of our children  loved the play space. Andrew our on the go 14 month old loved the tumbling equipment the most and Claire seemed to enjoy the climbing wall. She’s going to be a regular at Rockzilla before we know it!

Location Update

9/12/2008

We were turned down for the California Blvd. space we were interested in near Health Quest. It has been disappointing not being able to find a space over the summer but we continue our search and hope that something will come along soon! We may expand our search to include American Canyon if nothing comes along in Napa soon. Keep your fingers crossed, We’ll keep you posted.
